Church's Texas Chicken was founded on April 10, 1952, by George W. Church Sr. in a walk-up stand across from the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, becoming one of the first restaurants to market fried chicken as affordable fast food. Church's pioneered jalapeรฑo accompaniments with fried chicken, adding them to the menu in 1955, and was the first Texas fast food concept to expand nationally, reaching over 100 locations across seven states by the end of 1968. Today the chain operates over 1,700 locations in 26 countries and remains headquartered in the United States under Rego Restaurant Group.
