Cold Stone Creamery was founded in 1988 by Donald and Susan Sutherland in Tempe, Arizona, with a mission to create super-premium ice cream that was neither hard-packed nor soft-serve. The chain began franchising in 1994 and grew rapidly into a global brand, now operating approximately 1,500 locations in more than 28 countries under parent company Kahala Brands. Cold Stone is known for its signature made-to-order ice cream creations mixed on a frozen granite stone with an array of mix-ins.
