Gene and Georgetti is Chicago's oldest steakhouse, founded in 1941 by Tuscan immigrant Gene Michelotti and his partner Alfredo Federighi in River North, and still family-owned across three generations. Housed in one of Chicago's oldest buildings, the restaurant is renowned for prime-aged steaks and chops, housemade pastas, and signature inventions like the Garbage Salad and Chicken alla Joe, drawing celebrity regulars from Frank Sinatra to Russell Crowe. It received the DiRōNA Distinguished Restaurants of North America award in 2001, making it the first Chicago steakhouse to earn that honor.
