Gunther's Quality Ice Cream

Open since 1940, Gunther's Quality Ice Cream is Sacramento's oldest ice cream parlor, a historic landmark recognized by the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources, celebrated for its distinctive 1949 Googie-style building topped by the beloved 'Jugglin' Joe' neon sign. Current owner Rick Klopp has manufactured ice cream on the premises using the Gunthers' original high-butterfat recipes since 1974, offering over 50 flavors hand-packed in small batches. Business Insider named it the best ice cream shop in California in 2015, and Food & Wine declared it the best in California in 2021.
