Founded in 1969 in Santa Barbara, California, Habit Burger & Grill built its reputation on fresh, never-frozen proteins chargrilled over real briquettes — a distinction that set it apart from competitors. In 2014, Consumer Reports named the Charburger the best burger in America among over 53,000 participants, and in 2024 USA Today's readers voted Habit's Double Char the best fast-food burger in the United States. Acquired by Yum! Brands for approximately $375 million in 2020, the chain now operates hundreds of locations nationwide while still serving its signature chargrilled burgers, ahi tuna sandwiches, and tri-tip sandwiches.
