John Brown BBQ opened in 2011 in Queens, New York, bringing Kansas City-style barbecue — dry-rubbed and smoked low and slow overnight — to a borough where the style had been virtually absent. Founded by pitmaster Josh Bowen, a Kansas City native, the restaurant has been named the best BBQ spot in New York State by LoveFood and has become the unofficial New York City home for Kansas City Chiefs fans.
