Kann is a live-fire Haitian restaurant opened in Portland in August 2022 by James Beard Award-winning chef Gregory Gourdet, a Queens-raised son of Haitian immigrants and Top Chef finalist. The restaurant's name means "cane" in Haitian Creole, a nod to Gourdet's childhood memories of sugar cane vendors in Haiti, and its menu draws on Caribbean and African diaspora flavors including Scotch bonnet, plantains, djon djon mushrooms, and sour orange. Kann won the 2023 James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant, was named the No. 1 Best New Restaurant in America by Esquire, and ranked among the World's 50 Best Restaurants North America list.
