King of the Coop is a Nashville hot chicken restaurant founded in Tampa's Seminole Heights neighborhood by chef Joe Dodd, who spent over a year developing a spice recipe inspired by Prince's Hot Chicken Shack in Nashville before opening the restaurant. The concept grew out of Dodd's family tradition of eating fried chicken every Christmas Eve, a ritual dating to 1964. Voted Tampa's Best Fried Chicken since 2019, the restaurant serves twice-fried, gluten-friendly chicken across multiple heat levels from mild Country to the fiery Coop's Fury, along with signature items like the King Mac sandwich.
