la Barbecue was founded in Austin in 2012 as a food truck by LeAnn Mueller — granddaughter of Texas BBQ legend Louie Mueller — and Ali Clem, before transitioning to a brick-and-mortar on East Caesar Chavez in 2021. Cooking brisket low and slow over Texas post oak, the restaurant earned a Michelin star when the Guide made its inaugural Texas awards, one of only four Austin barbecue joints to receive the honor. Texas Monthly named it among the 50 best barbecue joints in the state in 2021, and owner Ali Clem is a James Beard-recognized chef.
