Nielsen's Frozen Custard was founded in 1981 by Steve and Debbie Nielsen, with a St. George, Utah location at 445 E. St. George Blvd serving the same slow-churned custard the family has made for over four decades. Steve Nielsen patented a proprietary double-custard freezing machine in 1983 that produces custard at just 10 percent air โ compared to 50 percent in standard ice cream โ making the signature Concrete milkshake, the chain's top seller, exceptionally thick and dense.
