Slim Chickens was founded on February 17, 2003, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, by childhood friends Tom Gordon and Greg Smart, who identified a gap in the market for fresh, hand-breaded chicken tenders made to order. The chain began franchising in 2014 and grew by 70 percent between 2020 and 2023, opening 53 locations in 2023 alone and expanding internationally to the United Kingdom, Germany, Turkey, and Kuwait. Today it operates in more than 34 U.S. states with hundreds of locations.
