Doña Lena started selling tacos in Salamanca, Guanajuato in 1985 before eventually bringing her family recipe to Houston, where she opened this Spring Branch restaurant in 2020. The birria, deeply flavored braised beef steeped in a smoky red chile broth, is the reason people drive across town, and the quesabirria with consomé for dipping has become a Houston standard. A second location now operates in the Heights.
