Open since 1928 and billing itself as the world's largest drive-in, The Varsity serves approximately a ton of fresh onion rings per day and earned the number-two ranking for best onion rings in the world from TasteAtlas. USA Today food critic Larry Olmsted singled out the rings as standouts, praising the fact that an actual intact onion ring exists inside the batter rather than processed puree.
