Toscanini's Ice Cream was founded in September 1981 by Gus Rancatore, who had previously worked at Steve's Ice Cream in Davis Square, and opened his original 800-square-foot shop at 899 Main St. in Cambridge's Central Square. The New York Times has called it 'the world's best ice cream,' and it has won Boston magazine's Best of Boston award for ice cream multiple times. A second location near Kendall Square opened in 2018, and the original Main St. shop reopened in January 2022 after renovations.
