Durants Steakhouse
Durant's Steakhouse is a Phoenix institution founded in 1950 by Jack Durant — a former Flamingo Hotel pit boss — that served as a gathering place for politicians, celebrities including Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne, and local power brokers for over 75 years. Known for its dark, intimate red-booth ambiance, mid-century martini culture, and the legendary practice of seating guests through the kitchen, the restaurant recently passed from family ownership to the Mastro family (James Beard semifinalists), who restored and reopened it. Durant's legacy as a vintage Phoenix steakhouse remains central to the city's dining identity.
