The Stockyards Restaurant, billed as Arizona's Original Steakhouse, opened in 1947 adjacent to Edward A. Tovrea's massive cattle operation near 5009 E. Washington St. in Phoenix. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1953 and rebuilt in 1954 under Helen Tovrea's direction; after a 2004 restoration, it was added to the City of Phoenix Historical Register. The restaurant is known for its aged corn-fed steaks, calf fries, and the 1889 Saloon featuring a hand-carved mahogany bar.
