Kata Robata
Kata Robata opened in Houston in 2009 under chef Manabu "Hori" Horiuchi, a Tsuji Culinary Institute graduate who came to Houston as the Japanese Consul General's private chef before spending eight years at Kubo's Sushi Bar. Chef Hori, a four-time James Beard Award nominee, was named Chef of the Year in the 2019 CultureMap Tastemaker Awards, the same year the Houston Chronicle ranked Kata Robata the city's No. 1 restaurant. The restaurant is celebrated for fish flown in from Japan multiple times weekly, served as pristine omakase sushi alongside robata-grilled dishes and one of Texas's finest sake and Japanese whisky selections.
