Sushi Gen

Sushi Gen opened in 1980 in Little Tokyo at 422 E 2nd Street, founded by Japanese immigrant Toshiaki Toyoshima, who had previously worked at Tokyo Kaikan. The restaurant built its reputation on traditional Edomae-style sushi, avoiding gimmicks and emphasizing ultra-fresh fish, with signature value-packed sashimi lunch specials that have kept diners lining up for decades. Sushi Gen does not accept reservations, operating on a first-come, first-served basis.
