Founded by chef Oscar Michel, a UC Berkeley alum inspired by his mother's Jalisco cooking, Tacos Oscar began as an Oakland pop-up before opening a brick-and-mortar in the Temescal neighborhood in 2018. The restaurant operates from a converted shipping container with an outdoor patio, and is known for hand-pressed tortillas, a frequently changing seasonal menu, and its signature fried egg taco. Tacos Oscar earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand designation in the 2025 MICHELIN Guide USA.
