Taquería El Farolito was founded in December 1983 by Salvador Lopez in San Francisco's Mission District, making it one of the oldest taquerias in the city. The no-frills, cash-only original location at 2779 Mission Street became known as a late-night destination, and in 2013 Esquire Magazine named its burrito the most life-changing in America. El Farolito has grown to 10 Bay Area locations, now operated in part by Lopez's children following his death in 2021.
