The Loyalist opened in Chicago's West Loop in 2016 as the casual downstairs sibling to the fine-dining restaurant Smyth, both operated by James Beard-recognized chef-couple John Shields and Karen Urie Shields. The bar and restaurant is known for its French-leaning comfort food, including a cult-favorite cheeseburger, and sits beneath Smyth, which earned three Michelin stars in 2023.
