Underbelly is a San Diego ramen restaurant founded in late 2011 in Little Italy by Arsalun Tafazoli and Nathan Stanton of Consortium Holdings. Tafazoli, a UCSD alumnus who studied regional food customs in Hong Kong, conceived the concept as an homage to traditional Japanese ramen culture, offering ramen, pork belly steamed buns, and Japanese-inspired small plates. A second location opened in North Park in 2014.
