Dirty Martin's Place is Austin's oldest restaurant, open since 1926 when founder John Martin opened a modest burger stand with a dirt floor on Guadalupe Street adjacent to the University of Texas campus — earning the nickname 'Dirty's' from its earliest patrons. Nearly a century later, the UT institution still serves never-frozen burgers with homemade onion rings, hand-squeezed lemonade, and old-fashioned shakes and malts, and has been praised as one of the best burger joints in the nation by the Wall Street Journal and The Guardian.
