Sandys Hamburgers

Sandy's Hamburgers has been an Austin institution since May 1946, when founders Andy Harris and Glen Teter opened on Barton Springs Road just south of the Colorado River. Now in its eighth decade under owners who acquired it in 1979 and added the landmark cone sign, Sandy's is celebrated for its old-fashioned burgers, frozen custard, and root beer floats that have cooled generations of Austinites on hot summer days.
