Duran Central Pharmacy is an Albuquerque landmark since 1942, originally founded by Pete Duran as a traditional Route 66 drugstore with a soda fountain — and now equally famous for its authentic New Mexican cuisine, particularly its celebrated red and green chile. Still operating as a working pharmacy, gift shop, and family-owned restaurant, it serves house-made dishes based on recipes unchanged for decades, including hand-rolled flour tortillas and chile-forward New Mexican plates. Its dual identity as pharmacy and beloved chile destination makes it one of New Mexico's most distinctive dining experiences.
