Helen is a celebrated open-flame Southern grill in downtown Birmingham, opened in 2020 by Chef Rob McDaniel — a five-time James Beard Foundation semifinalist — and named for his grandmother, whose indoor hardwood-coal cooking inspired his style. Housed in a renovated 1920 building at 2013 Second Avenue North and recognized by the MICHELIN Guide and Esquire, Helen offers an à la carte menu of prime meats, seasonal seafood, and locally sourced vegetables cooked over live fire.
