Joe's Pizza was founded in 1975 by Naples-born Pino "Joe" Pozzuoli in Greenwich Village, and the Broadway location at 1435 Broadway is one of several New York City outposts of this iconic institution. New York Magazine has named it "Best of New York" for the quintessential NYC slice, GQ listed it among the 25 Best Pizzas on Earth in 2009, and the restaurant gained pop culture fame when it appeared in the 2004 film Spider-Man 2.
1st in NYWe grabbed a slice on our first night in the city and honestly nothing back home in Ohio compares. The crust is so thin you can fold it in half and it still holds up.
I have eaten at probably 200 pizza spots in this city. Joe's plain slice is still the benchmark. Thin, crispy bottom, tangy sauce, not too much cheese. The platonic ideal of a NY slice.
