La Contenta was founded in 2015 in New York City's Lower East Side by Alex Valencia, who developed his expertise in Mexican agave spirits at Yerba Buena and gained recognition from The New York Times and New York Magazine. The restaurant group has grown to three Manhattan locations and is distinguished by chef-owner Luis Arce Mota's menus blending traditional Mexican cuisine with French culinary accents, along with what is described as the first all-Mexican wine list in the United States at the West Village location. Handmade tortillas and locally sourced meats are hallmarks of the kitchen.
