Sushi Kashiba opened in December 2015 near Pike Place Market at 86 Pine Street, founded by legendary chef Shiro Kashiba, who first brought Edomae-style sushi to Seattle in 1970 after training under master Jiro Ono in Tokyo. Chef Kashiba, born in Kyoto in 1941, is a three-time James Beard Award nominee for Outstanding Chef and was awarded Japan's Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays in 2024 for his contributions to Japanese food culture. The Seattle Times has called him the 'Sushi Sensei' of Seattle.
